With eight owned and operated aggregate quarries, 24 asphalt plants, and 14 concrete batch plants, our integrated products and services enable us to build and manage site development projects from concept through construction. But construction of this magnitude comes with environmental consequences. We recognize the impact of these processes and are actively making a difference to lessen our footprint.

In our effort to reduce construction landfill consumption, we created a mobile crushing division to recycle and reuse materials that would otherwise end up wasted. These materials are not only reused in our end products, but are utilized by contractors and home owners, through our public sales yard, as an alternative to quarried rock from base stone to back fill.

90% of the asphalt we produce contains recycled materials, and we use up to to 30% recycled asphalt products (R.A.P.) in our mix designs. These materials consist of recycled asphalt shingles (R.A.S.) as well as milled surfaces from existing streets.

Sustainability Projects

Harrison has partnered with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and the American Institute of Architects (AIA) as an Approved Continuing Education Supplier (CES) to ensure that these professionals are aware of the numerous sustainable options we can offer. Our educational seminars not only pave the way towards certain LEED accreditations, but in most cases, offer a more cost effective approach to standard building methods. Building “green” does not have to be more expensive; through numerous seminars and site visits, our goal is to make the design community aware of available alternative resources.

We also partner with local testing laboratories to recycle concrete cylinders used for compressive strength testing. Estimates show Harrison can crush and reuse over 1,000 tons of concrete per year with proper cooperation from local labs.

Further, we’re proud to show our support for other sustainable organizations such as Ijams Nature Center, East TN Design Center, USGBC, and many more by showcasing their logos on our concrete mixers.
