Wounded Maryville Soldier Returns Home
An East Tennessee soldier wounded in Afghanistan returned home the week of Memorial Day. Master Sergeant Michael Trost and his wife, Stephanie, were escorted by Patriot Guard riders and local law enforcement to his home in Maryville, where he was greeted by friends.
Trost, 49, was shot six times while his unit was helping build a school in Afghanistan in February. He sustained bullet wounds to his hand, hip, and right leg.
Before his deployment, friends say Trost enjoyed renovating a barn on his farm property. Friends and volunteers from the community, spearheaded by board members at the New Hope Blount County Children's Advocacy Center, have been working to renovate the barn during his absence.
To aid in the build Harrison, volunteered to pave the Trost's gravel driveway to make it easier for the solider to access his vehicles, and practice walking therapy outside the home.
Harrison Participates in Extreme Makeover:
Home Edition TV Show
The popular ABC TV show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" came to Knoxville, TN in January. The goal was to demolish and rebuild a new home and duplex in 7 days. The deserving family has three adopted children and run a non-profit housing for single mothers called the Restoration House of East TN. The women who live on the property with their children receive assistance to get on their feet as a family.
Harrison was asked to participate in the project by two of their larger customers, Dempster Poured Foundations and Hickory Construction. These two were subcontractors for the foundation package in the build. Within 24 hours of the demolition project, Harrison provided 100 cubic yards of concrete for the footers on a new duplex being built for the mothers and children of The Restoration House to live in. Thinking their portion of the project was complete, Harrison received another phone call the next day needing an additional 70 cubic yards for the foundation walls of the new home. The project was completed on time in just 7 days, despite some adverse weather. From day one the weather proved to be challenging for the crews and volunteers. What started as a nice sunny day turned into heavy rains, strong winds, hail, snow, and a temperature drop of 40 degrees over a three day period. This was truly a remarkable effort from the many contractors, subcontractors, and volunteers located in Knoxville to accomplish such a lofty goal. This build is one of the last few selected as the series ended its run this year. The Knoxville episode will air as a Thanksgiving special during the 2012-2013 season on ABC.
Many thanks to the drivers and personnel that participated on short notice: Bob Blasco, Eddie Justice, Wayne Grewell, Vincent Lacy, Mathew Ruckart, Don Kitts, Arthur Paquin, Jim Croft, Greg Hellard, Chuck Lovvorn, Don Childress, Kirk Harris, Jerry Brannen, and Stan Walls.
